a Surface Sojourn - time for a break!

Its been a fantastic but very frantic couple of months since we started the concept of Surface POP-up

Aaron, Dylan and I packed up on boxing day and headed down to my mother-in-laws near Phillip Island for a few days

Today we went for a drive to check out Archies on the Creek and meet Vern Rickman the creative mind and owner behind Archies on the Creek, Vern has THE most amazing wine cellar I have ever laid eyes on, the space reminded me somewhat of a Central Otago winery in New Zealand.

Vern has the most incredible passion and open face making one feel so welcome and at home.
He poured us a sparkling wine to enjoy as we paroused the floor to celling shelves and wine temperature controlled room.

Vern filled me in on his plans of turning the football field he owns next door into a helipad for his 'high clientale' so as not to disturb his neighbours cattle with helicopters coming and going's, he plans to build a resort too, gets better and better - and my all time dream - a day spa!

Aaron having a drink - we left with a Yarra Valley Pinot!

He supports Art, by having exhibitions in his events space once a month, something Surface POP will be following up on and hopes to do a collaboration with Vern at some point.

Surface artists - ilan.el lighting designer

 I Love synchronicity!
after the Treadlie launch the other night, Aaron and were cleaning up and there appeared a face in window, we opened the door and introduced ourselves and the next day  ilan.el lights were hanging in Surface POP's window, just-like-that!

ilanel's  passion for innovative design extends beyond the physicality of mere objects. Here, design is about experience - a philosophy that encompasses spatial relationships and the creation of touch points between people, artefact's and their evolving environments.

basically ilan el ROCKS!

Small Works Exhibition with a TWIST - Opening night and Artists works

After the launch of Treadlie Mag on Wednesday night, Aaron and I transformed the space (again!) into an amazing creative masterpiece of work by around 40 artists for our Small Works Exhibition with a twist, the twist being, able to buy works straight off the walls and gift wrapped for Xmas.
The exhibition will be up for a long time on Surface POP's terms till January 9th, but the plan is to keep evolving the space, as work sells replace with other small works, either by the same artists, or other artists as some of my artists are overseas and I'm still waiting for their work - looking forward to receiving Vivien Allender's  photographic work from New York this week!
We have work by some well know Artists available at affordable prices all less then $400!

Treadlie magazine launch at Surface POP

Green Mag's creative minds have released their new mag called Treadlie  - Issue 1 will be available tomorrow.

Treadlie is a bike mag for bike lovers, would be bike loves and those that appreciate great bike design, a mag devoted to its culture, fashion and design.

Aaron also had a small mention with his custom handpainting of bikes

The launch was at Surface POP last night, it was a fantastic night, with Brian Nankervis making us all laugh as he spoke about the dedication of Tom and Tamzin in their new venture.
As Tim Rogers is on the cover he was their to support with his date Megan Washington I was behind the camera and got some great shots of the night - so here goes....
